How Private Jet Charter Works
A practical guide to defining the journey, comparing suitable aircraft and understanding what happens from first enquiry to departure.
What private jet charter means
Private jet charter is the hire of an aircraft for a particular journey. The client provides the route, preferred timing, passenger number and practical requirements. A charter broker can then source proposals from suitable licensed third-party operators.
The aircraft may need to position before the passenger flight, and its next commitment can affect availability. Airport slots, parking, crew duty, weather, runway performance, permits and maintenance status also shape what can be offered. A quote is therefore specific to the mission and the time it was prepared.
Information for the first enquiry
- Departure and destination, including acceptable alternatives
- Dates, local times and realistic flexibility
- Passenger count, children, pets and mobility requirements
- Luggage quantity, dimensions and specialist equipment
- Cabin, connectivity, catering and transfer priorities
- A contact authorised to approve the journey
How to compare a charter proposal
The lowest headline price is not automatically the strongest option. Confirm the exact aircraft type, year or refurbishment information where supplied, seating and baggage configuration, operating carrier, airports, schedule, included services and contractual terms.
| Check | Questions to ask | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Aircraft | Is this the specific aircraft or an indicative type? What are the cabin and baggage limits? | Layouts and capability vary within a category. |
| Operator | Which licensed carrier will perform the flight? | The carrier retains operational control and safety responsibility. |
| Airports | Are slots, handling, customs and parking confirmed? | An attractive airport may not be operationally available. |
| Price | Which taxes, positioning, de-icing, catering and transfers are included? | Like-for-like comparison depends on scope. |
| Terms | What are the payment, cancellation, substitution and change conditions? | Availability and flexibility can change after acceptance. |
Aircraft images and specifications can be representative. Ask which details are confirmed for the aircraft actually offered before making a decision.
Choosing the aircraft
Passenger count is only the beginning. Sector length, runway performance, luggage, cabin height, seating layout, sleeping positions, lavatory, Wi-Fi, power and budget all influence suitability. A larger aircraft is not always necessary; the objective is a sound fit for the mission.
Use the aircraft guide to compare broad categories, then confirm the details of the proposed aircraft.
Choosing the airport
The best airport usually minimises the complete door-to-door journey while remaining suitable for the aircraft. Runway, operating hours, customs, slots, parking, handling and road access can outweigh simple distance.

What determines private charter pricing
Pricing may include occupied flight time, aircraft positioning, crew costs, airport and handling fees, navigation charges, permits, taxes and requested onboard or ground services. Seasonal demand, event traffic, overnight crew requirements, de-icing and limited parking can materially affect a proposal.
There is no reliable universal hourly price for every journey. Two missions of similar distance can price differently because the available aircraft and its position differ. Our private jet charter cost guide explains the main components without presenting misleading fixed figures.
Safety and responsibilities
The licensed aircraft operator is responsible for operational control, crew, aircraft airworthiness, maintenance, flight planning and the decision to operate. The captain and operator may change or decline a plan for safety, regulatory or operational reasons.
Louvani Jets acts as an independent charter intermediary. We do not own, operate or control aircraft. Our role is to understand the request, source suitable options, help explain their differences and coordinate the agreed arrangements.
Passenger preparation
Names should match travel documents. Passport, visa, immigration, customs and health requirements still apply to private flights. Share pets, oversize bags, sporting equipment, restricted items, mobility needs and catering requirements early so the operator can assess them.
Do not send passports, payment information or other sensitive data through an ordinary enquiry unless Louvani requests it through an appropriate channel for a defined booking purpose.
From enquiry to departure
- Define the mission. Share the route, schedule, passengers, luggage and priorities.
- Review suitable options. Compare the aircraft, operator, airports, inclusions and terms.
- Confirm and contract. Availability is secured only when the required agreement, payment and operational acceptance are complete.
- Provide required passenger details. The operator and handlers prepare the flight and relevant formalities.
- Reconfirm the itinerary. Final timings, terminal details and transfers remain subject to operating conditions.
Plans can change after booking, but a requested change may affect price, crew duty, slots, permissions or aircraft availability. Raise likely flexibility before commitment wherever possible.
Common private jet charter questions
How far ahead should I request a private jet?
Earlier enquiries usually provide more choice, particularly for peak dates, events and restricted airports. Short-notice charter can sometimes be arranged, subject to aircraft, crew, handling, permits and slots.
Is the aircraft shown in a quote guaranteed?
Confirm whether the proposal identifies a specific aircraft or an indicative type. Operator terms may permit substitution in defined circumstances, so review the aircraft and substitution provisions before acceptance.
Can private jets use any airport?
No. Aircraft performance, runway, operating hours, customs, handling, permissions, slots, parking and local restrictions determine suitability.
Are pets and large luggage accepted?
Often, but never assume. The operator must confirm animal documentation, entry rules, cabin policy and the actual baggage hold dimensions and limits.
Does Louvani Jets operate the flight?
No. Louvani Jets is an independent charter intermediary. Flights are performed by licensed third-party operators that retain operational control and responsibility.
